Almost all weddings have a theme. Country chic, Classic, Garden party. I've heard of circus themed weddings. Which brings me to this blog's topic. Our theme.
The ceremony doesn't have much of a theme. Although the ceremony is, in my opinion, the most important part of a wedding (duh, you can't have a wedding without a ceremony) it is also the shortest part of a wedding. People come, sit down, watch you get married, get up, go to the reception. There's not a lot of down time to notice the smaller details that make up a themed ceremony. So, for the ceremony we will just have simple decorations, some aisle liners and an arch and that's about it.
The reception is where it's at :) Our reception will start right after the ceremony is over, it will still be pretty light out (it'll be around 5:30 or so) but according to google, the sun will set around 8 o clock, around the time the real dancing starts. Enter theme. We will be having a light themed reception (hence the title)
The decorations (so far) include:
white christmas lights
tea light lanterns (DIY)
tiki torches
these awesome yarn ball lanters (DIY later post)
glow stick bracelets
sparklers
Mike and I are trying to come up as many different ways to light up the place as possible. This might include a 30 foot tall light heart if we can figure out how to make one. :P
Have any ideas? Let me know!

I was reading your blog and had a suggestion. If you are really wanting to showcase the light, you should make your ceremony later. You mentioned sunset around 8, and that is quite a ways after the ceremony ends. I know it doesnt seem like it, but it is. If you want to have as many people as possible stay for dancing you want to start it as soon as you can :) I noticed lots of people left sam's wedding before the dancing started.
ReplyDeleteThis is just a suggestion. Dont know what you have done as far as invites and stuff. I mean just picture dancing with mike and your dad as the sun sets and then a party in the moon and other light :)
Sweetie, your radiant smile will light up the reception!
